Have you ever thought about making a cook book?

November 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I can’t even count how many of my friends have told me “I want to make a cook book!” Truth be told, I am guilty as well.  I have probably thought this more than once throughout my lifetime.

Once I wanted to make a  book titled “Me and my Spatula”.  This was when I first moved to New York City for my freshman year summer and I lived with 5 other girls.  In our tiny cramped New York apartment, we all shared rooms and it was a new experience for all of us.  Everyone talks about how expensive New York food is, but it’s hard to not go to all of the restaurants when you don’t even know how to cook!  My mom came to visit us for the weekend and visited our apartment for the first time. When she reached the ktichen she looked around and was surprised by how clean we kept it.  Then, she opend the cubboards and drawers to realize that out of the 6 of us, we only owned one spatula. Trust me – there is a lot you can do with one pot, one pan and one spatula. (My mother convinced us it was time we buy at least one pot and one pan to go with our spatula.)

The other book I wanted to make is planned to be called “Cooking for the Modern Single Girl”. To give you a bit of background on how this evolved, I had 2 roommates in New York for my first year out of college. We again lived in a very tiny apartment.  However, the difference was this time we knew how to cook. We started experimenting with new recipes and started a tradition where every Monday we would rotate and each cook for the whole apartment!

Now for all you dreamers out there, Coolio has made a cook book.  He is now known as the “Ghetto Gourmet”. That’s right folks – if Coolio can do it, you can.  Just remember to take pictures of your scrumptious meals and write down the recipe.  It takes maybe 5 extra minutes at the end of your meal and who knows maybe you will get famous from it!

7 Common Foods That May Get You High

I was baking with Campo the other day.  While we were waiting for the cookies to finish, we kicked the soccer ball around for a bit and he told me that there is a soccer term called a “nutmeg”?  Granted, I am no soccer fanatic so I had no idea what he was talking about.

I wanted to share something with you that we stumbled across on Google.  Thank you to Cracked.com – we learned a lot about our good friend Nutmeg that is very surprising.  Make sure that next time you have an Iron Chef competition, do not make Nutmeg the secret ingredient.  All of your judges may all start feeling a bit “under the weather.”

Remember what it’s like to be a kid…

December 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Unlike most kids, I was not told very often to not play with my food.  My mother used to send me to school with heart shaped peanut-butter and jelly sandwhiches, we got micky mouse shapped pancakes in the morning, she let me make “pig” shapped cookies if I wanted.   I was allowed to express my so-called “creative” spirit as a child.

However, as we grow older – we often times forget how care-free a child’s creative mind can be.  Anna The Red has definitely shown us a fun way to present your food.  Maybe if I bring you lunch – I will give you a fun surprise in YOUR lunch box next time.

But you are right…they don’t always look very tasty. FUN – not always TASTY.
