So this iPhone thing…

March 27, 2009 · Leave a Comment

So let’s sit and talk about the iPhone. Who knew that Apple would be the next Google? It feels like Apple is slowly taking over the world doesn’t it.  The iPhone was cool when it was first released, but the 3G has changed the way the world looks at Apple products.  Everyone has tried to capitalize off of this phenomenon with iPhone apps, iPhone cases, creating iPhone friendly products, etc.  With consumers spending $300 on their iPhone and then another $100 a month for their plans (maybe more), money does not seem to be a limiting factor for iPhone users.  They are paying for the experience.  They are paying for the name: iPhone.

I am not saying it is a bad thing – hey, I caved to the iPhone trend.  This January I purchase my very own lovely, sleek, white, 16GB 3G iPhone.   However, it was not just the phone that I purchased – once I bought it, then I needed a case!  I figured that if I were spending $300 on a phone, I sure better protect it.   To me – my price point was so high already that $35 seemed like nothing. I went ahead and treated myself to a white and black silicon case to protect my phone.  On top of that,  I couldn’t risk breaking it – so I purchase the $85 2nd year of “Apple insurance”. True, I did have a free year, but what if in 1 year and 1 month my phone stops working! I’d kick myself if I could save myself the money and the hassle later if I just purchased the protectio now.  So after taxes and everything, I ended up walking out of the Apple store an hour later about $400 poorer, but with a nice little toy that proceeded to change my life.

At first, I did not believe the iPhone craze in how WONDERFUL this phone was, but that is exactly what it is – WONDERFUL.  The apps will change your life. I can check the weather every morning without turning on my computer.  It vibrates everytime I recieve an email so I don’t get in trouble from work.  I can twitter from it.  I can find out which direction is N vs. S. (I am one of those direction defficient folks.) I can also play checkers.  It can even act as a nightlight!

One more note on a business standpoint:  I wish that WordPress would let me post some type of poll and if I could – I would pose the question: Do you think that it was a smart business move for Apple to exclusively partner with AT&T? It is not question that it was smart for AT&T to partner with Apple. Their user base has grown exponentially over the past 2 years one the new 3G iPhones have been launched.

You tell me.

Anyone can be Daft Punk

March 18, 2009 · Leave a Comment

It is so interesting how technology has changed our lives.  Musicians used to be people with a natural talent for singing or playing the paino. Then it expanded to those who were talented with an instrument such as the guitar or the saxaphone.  When did it expand to “musicians” who new how to manipulate sounds on their computer?

Anyone can be Daft Punk now. With this website, you are able to mix up your own sounds and create your own rendition of Daft Punk’s song. There is more too it though – he has this ear for the beat, tone and movement of the song so as close as you may come to his song, you are never quite THERE.

Enjoy your new online toy.

Thousands of Geeks in One Big Room

January 8, 2009 · 1 Comment

Do you know what time of year it is? Does Las Vegas and CES mean anything to you? To thousands of computer fanatics out there, this is the highlight of the year. › Add New Post — WordPressEvery first week in January the Computer Electronic Show (CES) comes to Las Vegas. The entire city is sold out of hotels and the streets are roaming with computer geeks excited to see the newest-latest and greatest computer products.

This event is so large that even celebrities are itching to attend.  Stars including: Akon, Joba Chamberlain from the NY Yankees, Sarah Fisher from the Indie 500,  David Ortiz from the Boston Red Sox, Stevie Wonder and many more celebs.

I have been going to CES with my family for years and I have always enjoyed it.  If you register early enough, you can get an admission ticket for free. Sales start as eraly as August! If you are however one of those people who wait until the last minute, then you can get stuck paying up to $250 for a ticket to attend.  Even at this price though – it may be worth it.  We got to see inventions such as the tablet PC, the wii, the new SLR digital cameras, and much more.

Best memory though, is the KODAK “poker” game that they held, where I won a free camera.  My parents are going this weekend and my daddy is hoping that he wins a new camera too!

The Power of Technology

December 20, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Google has become the new ruler of the internet.  With ground breaking technologies – their goal is to be innovative and new.  Google developed a technology that allowed users to see the “street view” of most locations across the US.  Now – the things that Google Earth can do will blow your mind.

This may seem like a bird’s eye view of New York City, but in fact this is a virtual rendition from Google Earth.  This is a compilation of multiple photos of the city – worked into a 3D rendition to provide a realistic view of the city.

This is only the begining – it started with New York City, but will soon expand to the entire US – and then maybe even the whole world. Cool – huh?

Hey there :) ,
How are you? Im doin alright a the moment. To answer your question Yes I accept your offer and yes, the item is still available but unfortunately I am no longer local. I recently (about a month or so ago) moved back to Fullerton, California (my hometown) after my husband and I split. I know you are asking “why didnt you post it locally? The answer to that is: I didnt do it intentionally I registered with craigslist before I moved and I have been so busy and stressed that I forgot to update it… nor did I realize that it wasnt the correct city until after it was published and the damage had already been done. I completely understand if you would prefer to go with something local and I wish you all the best in your search, thank you for your time and apologize for the inconvenience and wish you the best of luck in your search.
On the other hand If you are still interested in purchasing it I’d pay to have the item shipped to you via fedex priority overnight with a tracking number once payment is received. You can send me the money by check, money order, bank transfer, western union, or money gram. I am sorry I dont do paypal, due to the fact that I sent my little brother $500 for his birthday and christmas this past year and they closed my account and my parents saying that there was no logical reason for me to be sending my family that much money unless we were doing something illegal….. i still have yet to receive my $500 back from them. I also do not Accept COD. As for the the reason I am selling it is due to this very messy divorce I am going through, work and school I really dont have any time for it plus I could really use some extra funds. It is in perfect condition and comes with everything it originally came with. If you need it in a hurry you can send payment via western union, money gram or bank wire transfer by 7:00pm PST time today I make the 8pm drop off and you would have it by 4:30pm tomorrow.

Sorry for the novel, :) I hope you were able to stay awake through enough of it to answer some of your questions If you have any other questions please feel free to email me( best way to get ahold of me) or my cell phone number is (949) 459-3595 oh and you might wanna get that little puddle of drool off your desk before it gets in contact with anything electrical or your boss sees ;) Just kidding have an awesome rest of the day.
Sincerely,

Jessica
Fullerton, CA.

Addiction to Facebook

October 15, 2007 · 1 Comment

INBOX (O)

How many times a day do you sign onto facebook.com to check your profile?

If you were to ask someone this question, they may proceed to tell you once or twice a day. LIES. For the average college student, I would estimate that it falls into the range of 10 to 20 times a day. For the more obsessed user, it could even reach the levels of 30 times a day. I have to admit that I am one of those obsessive facebook users.

Truthfully, I wouldn’t be able to tell you exactly how I waste hours on this silly website, but I do. I refresh my profile in a neurotic way, thinking that I am popular enough to receive updated posts every other minute, but this is never true. I have adapted the popular “facbeook routine”:

1. Click Refresh (0:00)

2. Scroll Down to my wall (0:03)

3. Realize that no one new has posted on my wall (0:7)

4. Click “View More Photos of You” (0:11)

5. Realize that there are no new pictures (0:18)

6. Look at my mini-feed to stalk a few friends (0:22)

7. Repeat

While I alternate between checking my facebook and checking my email, I do have the occasional break. This is however, just to change classes. Once the hour hits – it’s time for me to take that 10-minute walk to my next class, where I will proceed to sit down, pull out my pen and paper, open up my laptop, and log-into facebook and perform my routine.

At least I am not alone. As I sit in class, third row back – fourth seat from the end of the row – there are 5 people within my view. Four of them have laptops open, three of whom are on facebook and one who is on her g-chat. It’s about 40 minutes into class and I think that I’ve seen more than enough photos from “Jessica’s” life. She has cycled through the same 20 pictures of herself about 4 times. (I’m assuming from a night-out this weekend) Her favorite (viewed 8-times so far) is the one of her in a skimpy pink tube top passed-out on a couch with one leg over the edge, and a male-friend sitting next to her thumbs-up smiling into the camera.

There is so much you could learn from a person’s facebook profile.

WARNING: Be careful of looking at new profiles & pictures of people you may not know. Look behind you to make sure that they are not sitting behind you. That would just be creepy if they saw you looking at their profile.
